If you own a website that has flash on it then you may have a problem on your hands if you don’t approach search engine optimisation correctly. If you don’t understand what SEO is then you may want to spend money on company who are specific to the industry, such as Weblinx Ltd.
You must understand first that search engines don’t rank websites manually, they are viewed by millions of bots that are programmed to check for certain criteria specified by search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing. Flash may look appealing to people viewing your website but for bots it doesn’t exist at all, which is where your struggle may come from.
If your website is created by flash with no html content then search engines will have nothing to find on your website, therefore it will rank poorly to other html websites. Therefore there are approach’s that can be taken to ensure you are given a chance against other websites, but this can prove costly and may take much longer than it would for a html website. Approaches you can take to optimise your website are:
- Starting a link building campaign; amassing thousands of high quality links from relevant websites
- Create a HTML section on the website to contain information from the flash file
- Utilise social media & networking
- Create satellite sites
It is possible to optimise a flash website, but it’s unlikely the website will rank as highly as a html website due to more content being available to search engines to find. So if you are going to optimise your flash site then plan ahead and seek advice from SEO companies, but beware, if they tell you that flash websites are just as easy as html sites then they are lying, put the phone down and move on to the next one.

Every day I visit new websites in search of new information about search engine optimisation, Social Media, Social Networking, website designing, etc. and every day I come across an assortment of website designs. Some designs good, some designs bad, but the main thing I’m looking for is the content. Content is the life of your website/blog, without it there’s not much use wasting money on hosting any longer. The website may look awful but as long as the content is there then that’s all search engines care for, besides, since when have search engines had eyes? They are robots, they can’t see anything, only read it.
Of course the website must be navigational else search engines won’t be able to find, but that is beside the point. Don’t spend lots of money on a design for your website to then never get found by other people, concentrate on getting your SEO campaign perfected first (or close enough.)
Ensure that all the content you create for your website is search engine friendly. For example, spellings must normally be correct, the odd spelling mistake has been proven to be affective, but people may get lost in the translation if they have to read posts such as: “i wos riting a blog post out the otha day nd no1 liked it”, because you’ll only look uneducated to the vast majority.
So remember, spend time perfecting your websites SEO campaign first before you look into spending money on a better design for your website or to add new interactive features, because the money may end up going to waste which would be a shame as every website deserves a chance, no matter what the industry.

Search engine optimisation determines whether your website will compete against other websites or not. Without SEO your website will be lost to the world and that means no matter how much effort you put into the design of your website it will go to waste whether you like it or not. The only problem with this is that some websites only concentrate on the SEO campaign and not on the websites design, which can affect the traffic level resulting in a waste of money. So how can you find the fine line to ensure your website reaches the level it should be to attract and keep visitors?
A website can rank highly for the best terms in it’s industry but that doesn’t matter if the website isn’t easy to use. I’ve come across websites in the past which have ranked number highly for my search queries but have been impossible to read, thus me moving on to the next website and so on. If this happens you will create a high bounce rate for your website which is not good. You must ensure it works correctly else you will lose a lot of traffic which you’ve worked so hard to attract.
Key areas to concentrate on in terms of design are navigation, accessibility and loading times. If your website can’t supply any of these three then it may as well seize to exist as it can become a nuisance using a website which is poorly designed. Ensure the linking structure on your website is easy to find and move around – if the navigation is like driving without a road then people will give up and move on to another website. Not everyone has the same benefits that we have, such as vision and hearing. By ensuring people with accessibility problems can still use the website will give your website a much better chance in attracting this audience. If your website loads slowly then people will give up and leave, it’s as simple as that. The quicker your website loads the better chance people will stay and a higher chance of ranking highly in Google SERP due to its recent announcement of determining page rankings by assessing page loading speeds.
If you have any other tips that can help people optimise the design of their website then leave a comment.

Dogs have always been known as man’s best friend, but recently blogs seem to have taken this title away from them. We have the option to choose whether we want to own a dog or not, but blogs have recently become a necessity not an option. Nearly every website has realised this and taken one on, but why?
They say that dogs begin to look like their owners, but who’s to say this isn’t the same for blogs? Your blog can be personalised the way you like it, changing the look and feel with features such as themes, widgets, etc. This gives visitors a better opinion of who you are and what the blog is about; either making it or breaking it in the process.
So what about a blogs needs? Dogs and blogs must be fed! Your not expected to force a juicy steak piece at your monitor, but you are expected to feed your blog with new information on a daily basis. You don’t want your blog to be that shaggy looking blog that noone wants to look at, right? The information you feed it with must be juicy to attract new visitors, the more visitors the better. This can help give your page a better standing against other blogs, you may even get the number 1 ribbon.
Fast forwarding a few months on, you’ve won the number 1 ribbon, what are you supposed to do with your new found glory? Promote other companies (or websites) with a linking structure! You’ve earned your place in the hearts of thousands (or maybe hundreds, whos to know?), websites are more likely to be clicked now you are trusted. A blog roll can help your website collect new visitors who may have never heard of you before, optimising two websites in one – You’ve just killed two birds with one stone.
Blogs offer search engine optimisation for your website, so remember, a blog isn’t just for blogging, its for your website.
