No Domain, No Gain

Monday, March 15th, 2010

When your choosing a domain for your website you must bare in mind that it has a huge impact your search engine optimisation. Including your company name compared to including keywords takes a lot more effort to optimise, but this also brings the question “How do I include a keyword?”

To include a keyword you must remember, the site address must make sense else people will ignore your website. People may have the perfect URL that you desire, which means you must bargain with the current owner of the address in hopes of purchasing it. This can prove expensive if the address’s value is high, so sometimes other methods must be followed.

So how can you create the perfect domain to help optimise your website as much as possible? Cut it short, if words aren’t required then don’t include them, it’ll just fill the users address bar which may confuse them. Including a keyword is essential as it will help users identifiy what your website is about, which is why Search Engines give better domains the thumbs up than random ones. This keyword is your key into optimising your website, you must use it through the lifetime of your website, so pick wisely else you will regret spending money for nothing. The last thing to bare in mind, if its easy to remember, then chances are users will revisit time to time. If the website is full of numbers and special characters then noone will be able to get the website’s address correct.

XML Sitemaps Could Improve Your Website

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Some advice was offered by Yahoo! recently which could help you improve your SEO campaign.

A post on Yahoo!’s Search Marketing Blog explained how creating a sitemap XML file could become an important part in search engine optimisation, now that most major search engines now support them.

An XML file is described as a document which contains a list of website URLs with information relating to each link, which is then placed on the websites server to be cached by search engines.

“This allows you to tell search engines about your URLs, even if they haven’t crawled them naturally by following links on the web,” Yahoo! explained.

Hopefully this is just one secret that Yahoo! has to reveal about new SEO techniques which could help companies optimise their websites better than ever.

Title Tags – dont rely on the design of your website

Monday, October 12th, 2009

One of the key mistakes that web designers make when building websites is the failure to include optimised title tags within the website coding. As they generally do not focus on search engine optimisation but instead on creating an aesthetically pleasing website, they could be forgiven for simply placing your company name within the title strings of your website.

Now…the problem with this is that you may have a fantastic website to look at but beneath the polished exterior, your website needs to operate like a well oiled machine. If you don’t take the correct measures to ensure the back end of your website runs as smoothly as the front end looks, all that hard work and money injected into designing your site will have been lost.

Here at Weblinx we take great pride in offering the help and assistance you will need to dominate the search engine rankings by correctly identifying your main keywords and adjusting each page of your site, so that each page is as unique and relevant as possible. Targeting products or services, Weblinx take great care and attention to create well laid out and easily identifiable coding that encourages search engine spiders to cache, with greater relevance, your entire site.

Basically stating the obvious now, choosing to create the right foundations for your site will have positive and long-lasting effects on your website, your hard-work and money spent on a great design remains uncompromised and above all search engines will begin to remember you for having a greater relevance over your competitors.

Using title tags, meta descriptions and well chosen keywords is the first step in creating the perfect search engine optimisation campaign for your business. Let Weblinx offer you our support and advice now and receive a free website health check today.

Ranking Reports – Keeping you in the know.

Friday, October 9th, 2009

One of the key features in relying upon a professional SEO company such as Weblinx for your ethical search engine optimisation campaign is the inclusion of regular ranking reports that give each client a run down of their search engine ranking.

Typically set out in a table template for ease of understanding, each of the ranking reports contains the keywords optimised for the client along with their current and previous search engine positions. Simplified yet informative, we list the change in positions for each keyword across Google UK, Yahoo and MSN(Bing), the page number where the listing is (following the formula that as a default there are 10 results per page of search results on Google for example) and the best organic position that each keyword has acheived.

Not only highly valuable for our clients to keep track of the performance of their website development and search engine optimization campaign, the ranking reports enable Weblinx to keep a careful and personal watch over our clients to actively improve or make fine adjustments to assist in maintaining the best positions year in, year out.
