Search Engine Optimisation Procedure

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Google refusing to index your website and can’t figure out why? Here’s a couple of methods you can try with your website to try and convince Google to index your website. Once indexed you will then be able to experience the benefits of having PageRank for your website. Whether the benefits be more sales or revenue from advertisement, you will definitely feel better once Google has indexed your website.

The first step you should take is to be patient. If your website is new then it will take much longer to optimise than it would with an older website. People think by creating lots of content and adding it to their website then Google will eventually index their website, this is not the case. Google has no set time period to when it will index websites, by adding more content you will only be wasting your time because Google will only retrieve the last thing added, due to it being Googles first visit.

The second step you should ensure you take is to find a well ranked website and try to get a backlink. With a backlink Google will find you website much faster. This is because the website you are linking from will be checked frequently for new content, and by finding your newly added link it will follow it to your website. Once Google has noticed your website has no PageRank it will index your website, giving you the start you need to optimise your website for SEO.

So remember, if you are struggling in getting your website cached, be patient and don’t be afraid to talk to other webmasters, some may be kinder than others.

Google PageRank Is No Secret

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Recently the European Commission enquired into Google’s search market dominance, noting there there’s no secret approach the Google uses when ranking websites.

A Google engineer (Matt Cuts, Principal Engineer, Search Quality Team) has now hit back in the companies Europen Public Policy Blog by explaining just how Google does things when it comes to Google PageRank in SEO.

“One of the most widely-discussed parts of Google’s scoring has always been PageRank. That ’secret ingredient’ is hardly a secret,” he explains.

Google has always tried to help people understand how Google’s search ranking works. Being involved in multiple live webmaster chats online with hundreds of indiviual participants at once, experminting with tweeting, participating in podcasts, and giving advice to publishers.

“Criticising Google for its ’secret formula’ is an easy claim to make, but it just isn’t true. Google has worked day after day for years to be open, to educate publishers about how we rank sites, and to answer questions from both publishers and our users. So if that’s how people choose to define ’secret’, then ours must be the worst kept sercret in the world of search,” continues Mr Cutts.

Duplicate Content With Consent

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

A Google software engineer, Matt Cutts, has revealed some information on what happens when pages contain duplicate information, which will come as a big help when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO).

Google have always preferred original content when it comes to websites, but that doesn’t mean that pages will be dropped completely. “What we try to do is merge pages, rather than dropping them completely,” explained Cutts. This means PageRank will be passed on to one page rather than all pages.

This is good news for search engine optimisers who constantly worry about being penalised by Google for duplicate matches, but if a solid PageRank is wanted then duplicate content must be avoided at all costs.

Ranking Reports – Keeping you in the know.

Friday, October 9th, 2009

One of the key features in relying upon a professional SEO company such as Weblinx for your ethical search engine optimisation campaign is the inclusion of regular ranking reports that give each client a run down of their search engine ranking.

Typically set out in a table template for ease of understanding, each of the ranking reports contains the keywords optimised for the client along with their current and previous search engine positions. Simplified yet informative, we list the change in positions for each keyword across Google UK, Yahoo and MSN(Bing), the page number where the listing is (following the formula that as a default there are 10 results per page of search results on Google for example) and the best organic position that each keyword has acheived.

Not only highly valuable for our clients to keep track of the performance of their website development and search engine optimization campaign, the ranking reports enable Weblinx to keep a careful and personal watch over our clients to actively improve or make fine adjustments to assist in maintaining the best positions year in, year out.
