Benefiting From Your Social Networking Accounts to Evolve Internet Marketing

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Have you created an account on a social networking website such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace for your Internet Marketing campaign but have no idea how to benefit from it? Allow me to help you. By understanding what you should be doing and why you should be doing it you will be able to achieve more from your social networking accounts than you may be doing at this moment. It doesn’t take much knowledge, the only thing you must have available is time to spend conversing with the public.

The main thing you must understand when using a social networking account is that it does what it says on the tin – it allows you to become social with the public through the Internet. By neglecting your friends (Facebook & MySpace) or followers (Twitter) you will only lose numbers rather than gain them. By commencing conversation with different people you are able to make new contacts that you may not come across through the use of your website which will encourage more people to come to you rather than away.

By uploading media content for the public to view you are able to collect opinions and once again encourage the public to talk to you. By uploading media such as photos, videos or music you have the chance to show people what you can do. Ever heard of the saying “All talk and no action”, well this is where you can prove them wrong. Features like this are available for a reason, by taking advantage of what is available you have a better chance in making numbers instead of losing them.

You can ask existing contacts to help promote your profile by either posting or tweeting a link to your profile on their account. By giving your profile exposure on other established profiles you have a better chance in attracting more people. It’s not always so simple as to leave you account to wait for people to come to it, by giving the public a “doorway” to your profile they are more likely to visit it rather than ignore it.

I’m positive other advice is available to people who want to help their Internet marketing campaign evolve with the use of social networking so if anyone has any tips please leave a comment below.

Local SEO is Growing

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Recently local search engine optimisation (SEO) has become more and more popular due to new technology becoming available to the public. Thanks to services such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Loopt everyone has the chance to make their location available to friends and the public. Your industry has no effect on local SEO as any business can benefit from making their location well known to surrounding areas. This may be down to people feeling more comfortable working with companies closer to them than companies hundreds of miles away. The bottom line is that local SEO is the way to go for both small and large companies due to it’s surge in popularity.

So what can you do to jump on the band wagon and ensure that your company is search engine friendly when it comes to local SEO? There’s a couple of things you can do for your company which involve social media and new technology.

  • By utilising websites such as Facebook, Twitter or MySpace you are able to communicate with the public and make both new friends, clients and partners. By being able to make your location available through websites such as Foursquare or Loopt you are able to sync up your social media profiles to post updates of where you are. By making your location available members are able to discover you through searching for locations which gives both your company and your website a shot at promotion. It’s proven that members of the public will analyse companies through the Internet before they approach them properly so by ensuring you are doing anything you can to promote your company you will have a better chance in encouraging visitors to choose you.
  • Recently more and more devices are utilising GPS technology which means your location is able to be broadcasted when you want. With websites such as Foursquare, Brightkite and Loopt being avaialble on the mobile web you are able to publish your location no matter where you are (as long as your location is available). By utilising GPS services you are able to use new promotions by choosing areas to concentrate on and show that you actually care about them by visiting them time to time and publishing your location.

It’s a great novelty to be able to show your whereabouts, don’t be one of those companies who believe the old ways are the best ways else you may miss out on the best opportunity for your company yet!

Internet Marketing for Social Networking

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Social networking is one of the most popular services available on the Internet today and it’s no surprise why. By being available to almost everyone in the world nearly anyone has a profile on one social networking website. Whether it be Facebook, Twitter or MySpace they all meet the same objective. The difference between social networking websites isn’t much, yet each website has it’s own fan base who constantly argue that their choice of social networking is better, but in the end they all do the same thing.

Social networking is commonly used to communicate between one another, whether it be through posts on each others profiles or personal messages, there’s always a way to contact another person. Other forms of communication are available on most social networking websites such as posting photos, videos, links and other media to allow others to comment, but this all results in socialising amongst one another at some point. This means any industry can make use of more than one social networking profile and they should, almost every company does.

The challenge with using social networking is attracting new customers. This is probably due to the purpose behind a social networking profile is to make friends, not collect new clients. Fortunately as time has gone by many different brands have discovered Internet Marketing strategies which can be used to attract new people and luckily for you some of them are available for almost everyone to do.

Competitions

Every now and then an email will pop up in my inbox advertising a new competition which involves a prize draw. Usually it’s some new gadget which everyone wants but is out of their price range. The catch? By joining their social networking profile my name would be entered into the prize draw along with all the others who are hoping to win. Sometimes it can be too much of a hassle to participate in these competitions, usually if I don’t have a registered account on the chosen social networking website, but if it’s on Facebook or Twitter it only takes a couple of seconds to click ‘Like’, ‘Follow’ or  ’Add as Friend’ and that’s it. The clever thing about this form of advertising is that fact it is so easy to forget which profile, group or page you’ve joint which means your just another person they can advertise their business to.

Of course it’s a struggle to email people you don’t have any contact with, but with the help of contacts such as friends, family or other businesses it can become possible. This is definitely a method worth using if you have a little money to spend on a fantastic prize. Just bare in mind, if you don’t market the competition properly then the money you spent on the chosen prize will be in vain.

Viral Marketing

Almost every company utilising a social networking profile uses some sort of viral marketing. Whether it be through the use of images, videos, games or other forms of media there is a way you can use viral marketing to attract new profiles to yours. Some methods may prove more costly than others, but by being creative and breaking from the mould you have a huge chance of attracting more people than you expected. Some viral marketing campaigns I have come across have been good, some not so good, but in the end someone is going to do what you want so use your imagination.

Advertising

Recently some social networking websites have given people the chance to advertise across the website. This can prove very costly and may not work. If your company doesn’t have a big budget then it’s best to steer away from advertising as it can eat away at your money until there is no more which isn’t worth doing over promoting a social networking profile.

These are only a couple of methods you can use to promote your profile but I’m positive there are many other methods available to use. If you have any others then please leave a comment, the more the merrier.

Internet Marketing is Where Your Money Should be

Monday, May 10th, 2010

If your one of those companies that prefer to do things the old way then you need to wake up and smell the roses because these days it most likely won’t work. Due to Internet being the most used thing across the world amongst other things you should put most of your money into Internet marketing rather than other marketing strategies. It has been proven that Internet marketing definitely works much better due to services such as search engines, social media, social networking, etc.

So what should you invest your money and time into to promote your company? There are plenty of different services you can use but some are specific to industries, but this doesn’t mean certain services are available to everyone. For example, the most utilised campaign used by website is search engine optimisation (SEO). SEO helps your website get found by search engines and helps rank your website highly amongst other websites in the same industry. The better optimised the website the higher the ranking, thus resulting in more traffic due to its appearance on search engine results pages. It is said that most people will only use links that are located on the first page of search engines rather than lower pages.

Other areas which should be utilised are social media and social networking. By using these services you are able to communicate with other registered users and get your voice heard by more people than you would be able to through other strategies such as newspaper adverts, cold calling, etc. The better you are known and the higher your reputation on websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Tumblr you are able to get more people interested in you and what you have to say. Blogging is another highly recognised form of advertisement due to people being able to subscribe to posts, keeping them up to date with new posts with information specific to the blogs purpose, whether it be tutorials, images, videos, someone will care about what you post and will subscribe.

Even further there are other services which can be used depending on your industry. Websites such as YouTube, MySpace, DeviantArt, which help promote media rather than websites.

So as you can see, no matter what industry you work in you are able to promote your company through the Internet. The better you promote yourself the more recognisable your company will become, resulting in new clients, which means more money for you, money money money.

Social Media Allows your Voice to be Heard

Monday, May 10th, 2010

As every company knows, it can be hard to promote yourself when there are so many companies doing the same thing. By spending money on promotion such as billboards, advertisements, etc. you are losing the money you have worked so hard to earn. So what can you do to get your voice heard by millions and begin Internet marketing? Utilise the Internet of course.

Millions upon millions use the Internet for different uses, which means there is a huge audience which can become possible clients in the near future if done correctly. Now of course most companies will have a website which explains what the website does, how they do it, how to contact the company, etc. but there are other approaches that can be made which are becoming more and more popular every day.

Social media seems to be the future of Internet, due to its simplicity and popularity. Social media profiles are easy to create and once created can be used in many ways to promote your company. Services such as Facebook and Twitter are constantly mentioned in the media and are becoming more useful as time passes by. Whenever a huge event occurs the Internet is definitely the best place to find out all information relevant to the event, due to social media websites being updated constantly by different users.

You may be an individual, but so are the likes of Barack Obama, Gordon Brown, Tiger Woods, who have all had a huge affect on the Internet at one point or another. You can be the next big thing if you provide the goods, but if you don’t then you will never have the chance to find out for yourself.

The only recommendation that can be made is to register on multiple social media websites and converse with other users and spread your message, whether it be a company, event, product, it doesn’t matter, by passing it through the public it is sure to spread to places you would never have reached before.

Your Industry Determines Your Social Media & Networking as Well as SEO

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

By now you should have heard of at least one social media or social networking service available online, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Tumblr, there are plenty of different services available. The trouble with so many services existing is knowing which ones are best suited for your website, because each website has its own targetted audience, whether it be sociality, news, graphics, videos or music there are different websites available to collect resources from, submitted by people just like ourselves.

One question you may be asking is ‘Why should I bother getting involved with social media & networking websites when my website has SEO?’ Well that may be so, but by broadcasting material involved with your website you are able to find and target audiences who may have never searched for your website before.

So how can you find social media & networking websites and use them to help promote your website to people who care? Lets face it, if people don’t care for what you are posting then they will ignore it and let it get buried under hundreds of ‘useful’ posts, resulting in a waste of time from your behalf. It may not always be due to being irrelevant, it may also depend on the quality of the post, if it’s been done before then it’s probably been seen before, which makes you look silly and waste yet more time.

To define whether the website is correct for you it is recommended that you do your research about the website first. By reading recent posts you will be able to get an idea of what the website is about and what people are posting. If the posts are relevant to your industry, register to the website and remember it, this is one of many websites you will be participating in on a regular basis. The better ranked the website the better exposure your website will get, if the website is hardly used then you will only waste time you could be using on a more popular website used by bigger and better companies. To find big websites should not be a difficult task, by searching for phrases relevant to your website and finding highly ranked websites in SERP’s you will be able to find the best websites for you.

When posting on these website you must remember not to post spam. By spamming you will only get yourself banned which means all the effort you’ve put into building up a reputation will go to waste, which can help when you are trying to communicate with other members. Your reputation will mean a lot after a long period of time as members will recognise who you are and the quality of your submissions. By posting up fresh content you will be able to collect views from others and exposure, giving you the chance to converse with other members and share opinions. Opinions may be towards the content, both positive and negative should be taken into account as this can be used for your next post, so don’t lash out on unsuspecting victims because they don’t like what you’ve posted, this opinion could give you the help you need to make a better post next time.

Your posts don’t always need to be relevant to your website, the better your posts the more you are respected by fellow members. This can allow you to share links to members who trust you, which then gives your website the traffic you’ve worked hard for through months of submissions and conversations.

Social media & Networking may not be alike, but they both assist your website just as much when done correctly. Don’t allow your website to fall behind others, give it the extra boost it needs by becoming a friendly member of a website society and you may create contacts as well as clients on the way.

Social Networking Isn’t a Waste of Time

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Everyday I mention to people that I use social networking within work everyday, which instantly creates the impression that I spend hours sitting around on Facebook, Twitter, etc. It’s no surprise people assume this, not everyone understands that social networking is used by companies everyday to help promote products. This is why I am creating this post today, to explain to you why social networking isn’t a waste of time and can in fact give your product the boost it needs to be up there with the best of your industry.

So what is social networking? It was just the other day I was debating with a workmate whether social media and social networking are the same; it’s a difficult one. The media are forever portraying both social media and social networking in the same category, but I myself think there’s a difference which separates the two.

  1. Social media allows Internet users to view, post, comment, rate and forward items such as text, images, videos and music, which is then discovered by others through websites like Digg, YouTube, SoundCloud, etc. there are many websites that support all types of media.
  2. Social networking allows people to keep up to date with other contacts at a daily basis through websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc. This allows them to send pm’s to each other, update their status’s, post media and more.

So some of you may still be sat there scratching your head wondering what the difference is still, let me explain. They both do sound similar, but the point of introducing social networking to your company is to allow you to communicate with other members of the public. By being able to communicate freely with as many people as possible you are able to spread your product much faster than you would through adverts, and most of all it is free.

So why isn’t social networking a waste of time then? Surely its just someone sat around posting relevant information about the industry every day? That may be the case, but it takes time and effort to get a social networking campaign to work in your favour. Not only is it free but it is also able to be embedded in your Internet marketing (if your company has Internet marketing of course.) You must get the public’s trust before anyone will be convinced to trust anything you say, this will take a long time through posting messages to individuals, interacting with groups of people, because there’s no way anyone will look into your product if they think your just another fool wasting peoples time, unless of course they are gullible enough.

So if you ever tell anyone your looking into social networking, expect people to give you the odd look, they may not understand that even the biggest of companies are now doing it, it’s just another day in the office.

Social Surge

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Recently websites have jumped on the social networking band-wagon to allow their users to communicate more with their friends whilst using the service. With no way of knowing what’s next to embed social networking in it was a surprise to discover BBC are incorporating Facebook, Twitter and Bebo with IPlayer.

“We are close to launching the third version of the iPlayer in beta which will have many more social functions embedded within it,” explained Mr Huggers. “People will be able to bring their Facebook friends onto the iPlayer so they can share what they are listening to or watching with each other more easily.”

This may not be much of an advantage in terms of search engine optimisation, but for nosey people who like to be in the know all the time will definitely thrive from this new expansion.
