When using images on your website it is good practice to treat them as you would with text. Despite the fact that search engines spiders may not be able to see images like we can they can read items such as alt tags. By ensuring you optimise your images correctly you can help your website not only appear in the search engines for websites but for images as well. Here are two tips you should bare in mind when adding images to your website:
- Not everyone searches for websites on search engines, they will also search for other types of media such as images, videos or music. By giving your image the potential to appear highly in the image search results your website will have more chance of being discovered. Despite the fact the traffic won’t be as much as it would be from appearing in the web results any traffic is good.
- By adding alt tags to your images you will help assist websites users who may have bad eye sight. This is because most people who don’t have much vision or at all will use computer software that reads out alt tags added to images on websites. This gives them a chance to understand what they can’t see.
You should always ensure your images are optimised as much as you would for anything else on your website, not everyone has the privilege of sight as we have. Ensure that your images are named accordingly so search engine spiders can crawl your website and pick up everything that is contained on your website and give your site even more strength for your search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign.

Have you recently started a website and hope to see search engine optimisation (SEO) results appear almost instantly? Good luck. It’s a well known fact that by owning an old website you are trusted more by search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing and others. To build up trust with search engines will take time and effort, but it should also be noted that your visitors must also trust your website.
In the real world people have different reputations for what they do, some good and some bad, it all depends on what they have done. This is no different to websites, if they neglect the web then they will only create a bad reputation for themselves whilst if a website treats its visitors with respect then it will build up a good reputation. The better your websites reputation the better for you.
The difficulty with building up a good reputation is what can be done, one minute people may like your website and the next minute they don’t. A few things you should take note of are the following:
- By displaying your opinions on your website may lead to negative feedback due to people having different opinions on the same thing. Unless your positive it can’t be displayed in a negative light then it’s recommend you only stick to displaying facts.
- Don’t have a website that’s too wild. Some people like simple designs which are easy to read and navigate through. By having hundreds of images displaying on your website will only slow down the load time of your site which will lose visitors.
- Don’t steal anyone’s published work. Not only is this illegal but if people realise that you’ve stolen someones work they will create the opinion that your website is a hoax and may lead to problems such as theft, viruses and other serious issues.
By ensuring your website can only be seen in a positive fashion your site will benefit extremely. People talk and if your website is recommended to one another eventually you will be ranking in the search results with the best of your industry. Don’t let people get a bad idea of you, you’ll only waste your time in the end.
If you have any other pointers people should follow then please leave a comment for readers to see, I’m positive there are recommendations I never imagined existed.

Do you own a Wordpress blog? If so then you have probably experimented with 1 or 2 plugins through the life of your blog. Through experience I have found it can be a struggle to find plugins which can help make Wordpress blogs better for both myself and visitors. To help assist you and your blog with your SEO I have composed a list of plugins for you to use to give your blog a better chance of competing against other blogs.
The first plugin I recommend you include in your Wordpress blog is ‘Akismet’. This plugin helps assist you in battling against comment spammers who recently have become much more frequent. This will help keep your posts strong in case spammers attempt to post comments full of links to external websites of their choice.
The second plugin is the ‘All in One SEO Pack’ plugin. By using this plugin you are able to add important SEO features to your blog to ensure it is search engine friendly at all times. There are plenty of settings that can be changed to your standards so you have complete control over what is added and removed from your blog.
A third plugin which is recommended to keep your blog social is the ‘Digg Digg’ plugin. This allows you to add different social media buttons which will post links from your blog on websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg and other websites. This is a way of both promoting your blog and also allows you to keep track of who is using what when reading your blog.
The fourth plugin you may wish to use with your blog is the ‘Google News Sitemap’ plugin. If your blog has been verified by Google to include posts in the news feed this plugin will help assist in creating a news sitemap for Google so your blog follows standards set by Google.
‘HTML Page Sitemap’ is the fifth plugin we use to ensure if search engines crawl our blog they are able to find all pages on our blog. This makes sure that all pages, no matter how deep, are crawled and added to the search engines result pages.
Lastly we use ‘SEO Smart Links’ to add links to each post automatically. This plugin is helpful in a huge way as it allows a list of sites to be added to it’s settings which will be added to new posts by searching for chosen keywords in the added list.
Each plugin is useful in a big way and has allowed us to take advantage of blogging. There is no question that there is more plugins which can help optimise Wordpress blogs, so if you know of any others that have not been listed then please leave a comment.

Here’s a question for you, do you think blog posts are a good way to strengthen your search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign for your website? If you don’t believe they are then you’d be sadly mistaken. After months of posting on our blog we have notice a huge increase of traffic to both our blog and website. Some days have been better than others in terms of how many visits we have had, but by looking at our graph you can see where we began posting frequently (something you yourself should be doing on your blog):

As you can see, some weeks have been better than others when it comes to visitors. This is because of the material being posted by myself and other authors may not have been as good as other posts. The better the content the better the traffic, this means by posting relevant posts with appropriate titles and meta content will have a better chance of attracting readers than posts which have nothing of interest to web users.
So yes, blog posts are “all that” when it comes to SEO. The proof is in the pudding as some might say. The question is, what use is having people visit the blog when they should be visiting the website? By inserting links strategically you are able to give pages that may not be accessed as much a chance at being discovered by visitors. By posting frequently you will build trust with visitors, the better you are trusted the more likely you are to convert visitors from the blog to the website.
You may not be able to post frequently but by utilising a blog and posting as much as possible you have just as much chance at getting your website a higher traffic level than you once would. Don’t avoid this chance at gaining a higher popularity, we’ve discovered the benefits of blog posting and now it’s your turn to reap the rewards.

For a long time it has been known that having relevant content on a website is good for SEO, but recently more and more people are starting to believe that maybe content isn’t all that and there are other ways of optimising their website. This is true to an extent, but if a website doesn’t have any content on then most of the other optimisation techniques will do no justice.
The content doesn’t need to be a paragraph after paragraph of information because not everyone is going to want to take up a lot of time reading when they could be doing other things on the web or even better, your website. As long as the content is rich with relevant content containing your chosen keywords (if you don’t have any keywords then you really should look into keywords first) then your website will benefit extremely.
Don’t expect your website to be finished once you’ve added your new content to your website. By updating your website constantly with new material search engines will continue to crawl your website which will help you rank higher in the search engine result pages. One method of updating your website with new content is by adding a blog or news page. This allows you to add content whenever you desire with new content which may not look right on other pages such as the home page.
Ensure you include links within your content too. This will help search engines discover pages deep within your website which may not be found for a long time. A great linking structure will give your website even more strength when done correctly, even more reason to add fresh content to your website.

Have you ever heard the words “We can’t promise you results” from a search engine optimisation (SEO) company? Never have these words been truer. No company can promise results and if they do then you should run and fast. This is because your website can have everything ticked on your SEO to-do list but without a search engine trusting your website it will get nowhere. This doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, it just means it will take time which is what most SEO companies will tell you at some point. Not to worry though, if you follow a few recommendations from yours truly you will hopefully see improvements.
The first thing to understand is that if a website hasn’t existed long then search engines will take longer to trust your website than websites that have existed for years. Age is seen as a sign of stability by search engines so by owning an old domain name you are more likely to see signs of improvements quicker than you would from new domain names.
The more links coming into your website the more search engines will trust it. This is because it shows that your site is worthy of linking to which gives search engines a reason to believe your website is more legit than others.
By building your brand name up people will eventually see you as one of the leading companies in your industry. This won’t happen over night and can take a long time but once your website is being seen as one of the best search engines will realise this.
By fulfilling your promises quickly and at a high standard your business will be recommended more and more. The better you perform the better your company looks, so over deliver if possible and your online trust will gradually grow.
Build up relationships with clients and other companies. Never neglect anyone else it can turn around and bite you on the behind. By conversing with anyone you can you will eventually land yourself in a great spot. The better the people you know the greater your companies reputation which will lead to more recommendations building your trust at the same time.
Trust doesn’t happen instantly and is demonstrated in many situations, whether it be relationships or friendships it takes time, but once it happens you will definitely feel the relief and see the improvements.

When it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) you should always ensure your website contains unique content on every page. By duplicating any content on to another page then your page may be penalised by search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, Bing or others.
Sometimes this may not always be your fault, not everyone plays fair on the web and likes to take the easy route of stealing peoples content without permission and using it on their own website. There is an easy way to discover whether someone has duplicated any of your content. First you must copy a snippet of text from the content you want to check and paste it into Googles search field. If your page is listed first then there isn’t much of an issue, but if your page is under ranked by another website then that website has the most authority for your content. You can either ask the web master of the website-in-question to remove the content or you can change the content on your website, the most easiest it to change it yourself.
You are also able to find any pages on your website with the same content on, this is helpful if you want all your pages to contain unique content and is recommended that you add new content in to these pages so you can avoid your site being penalised by search engines.

When it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) there are always different approaches that can be taken. This is no different for subdomains and subfolders. Both are used by websites throughout the Internet, but which is the best to use when it comes to SEO? There are different facts regarding both subdomains and subfolders which can be listed, these are:
Subdomains:
- Displayed in the URL by the characters after “http://” and the ones before “.site.com”
- Are viewed by Search Engines as totally unique sites independent of the parent domain
- Site Authority (in other words, the ability for the site and its subsequent pages to rank in the search engines) is not passed down from the parent domain
Subfolders:
- Represented in the URL by the characters after “.site.com/” and before “filename.html”
- Are viewed by Search Engines as a subdirectory within a site
- Site Authority is passed down from the main domain
By analysing the above facts it is clear that subdomains can make SEO campaigns much more of a challenge due to pages being viewed as unique sites. This means pages would need greater quality of content, promotion and more link building. This can prove very costly. The advantage of using subdomains is the ability to optimise separate pages rather than the whole website which means different keywords can be optimised on different pages.
I advise that you use subfolders if you don’t have a big budget or have topics which need extensive content, a separate navigation or a different design. If you do use subdomains then ensure that it is of great enough quality that it will collect links and stand on its own.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a well known method of ensuring websites are search engine friendly. By making sure your website is compatible with search engines you are more likely to rank higher than websites which aren’t optimised enough or at all. The problem with SEO is that most companies choose to use companies who work in the SEO industry which can cost a lot in the long run, something smaller companies may struggle with. This is by no means a smaller companies fault, bigger companies generally have a bigger budget which means they can splash out on the best SEO services money can buy, whilst smaller companies may only to be able to afford the basics.
What people do not think about is that SEO doesn’t have to cost money. Search engine optimisation can be learnt by anyone who has the time to sit and research the topic thoroughly, which is why bigger companies choose to hire other companies to do the work so no time is wasted. For smaller companies learning SEO basics is a better option.
The best approach is to define keywords that target your industry, products or events first. The best way to do this is to look for trends in certain words that are relevant to your company, whether it be computers, graphics, music, there are plenty of keywords that you can use.
Once you’ve found the keywords that are perfect for your SEO campaign you must optimise your website for these selected words. This is to help you increase your chances of ranking higher on search engines result pages. The higher your website is ranked the better your chances of attracting visitors, resulting in more money for you. It doesn’t matter whether your website is an ecommerce website or just for advertisement purposes, there is money to be made through your website and by optimising your website correctly you will be able to get it. Insert the chosen keywords in the title page, meta tags and other content segments – ensuring that it sounds natural and not jibberish.
Once you’ve added your keywords in the correct areas you should look into signing up on social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. This is a great way of attracting additional traffic through to your website by targetting the public in a more social approach than in your face.
Once you’ve done all this you will only ever need to make slight adjustments such as adding extra keywords or registering on other social media websites.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is made up of many different sections, meta data, linking, alt tags, title tags and more. The issue that I’ve noticed recently is that some sections are being ignored due to recommendations by other websites. The problem with so many recommendations floating around the Internet is that it is hard to find the truth from the false. Linking has always been a vital part of an SEO campaign, but recently websites have started to spend more time on other things such as creating new content and less time on getting internal and external links.
It is true that Google frowns upon purchased links and spamming, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. By obeying certain methods you will be able to get a high quality linking structure for your website which will help you much more than concentrating on fixing little things such as missing alt tags or adding new meta data on pages. By submitting keyword-optimised articles to a variety of news websites, getting involved in social media marketing, or implementing a Google News feed you are able to legitimately build links which will avoid your website getting penalised by search engines.
When contacting websites to request link swapping you must ensure the websites page ranking is of good quality. By using websites with page rankings of 0,1 or 2 you needn’t bother, it won’t do much for your website. By aiming for highly ranked websites you will have a much better chance of getting a higher page ranking yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s only 1-2 websites, if they have a high page ranking then they will do your website a huge favour.
It’s easy to get plenty of links to your website once you know how, but it’s also easy to forget where your links exist. It’s essential you monitor all your links to ensure they all go to existing pages on your website, any broken links can affect your SEO campaign which means all the time spent on building links has gone to waste. If any of your links appear to be broken then it’s recommended you either contact the web master to fix the link or create a 301 redirect to another page.
Don’t believe everything you read on the web, not everyone is as clued up as others which will effect your website if you don’t research techniques thoroughly before using them.
